Social Activities

The club has a very active social calendar.

Lawn bowling is, by its very nature, a social event. So, in that regard we have many social events throughout the year.

But beyond that, many of our lawn bowling events feature a social break with refreshments.

  • On Tuesday afternoons the green is reserved for our members over 75 who enjoy two 6 end games with a refreshment break in-between.
  • Our Thursday Morning Donut Draw is a popular draw with two six end games with a break for tea and coffee and, of course, the big attraction – donuts.
  • Our Sunday Afternoon Tea Draw is another popular event. Again, there are two six end games with a break for Tea, Coffee and a variety of cookies and pastries brought by the players.

In the spring we have our annual Opening Day with bowling and social time, signaling the opening of the summer bowling season.

The last weekend in April we hold our Open House where we teach visitors the basics of bowling and invite them to sign up for lessons. We tie that in with a Garage Sale which is a major fund raiser for the club.

Most Friday nights throughout the year we have a Friday night gathering. During the summer there is a casual bowling game at 4:00 pm followed by a light meal – most often pizza. During the winter months there is indoor bowling and cards again with a light supper.

On Wednesday Afternoons in the winter members gather at the clubhouse to play cards or Mah-jong.

Wednesday evenings and Thursday afternoons feature the highly social Cutthroat draw where rinks of three vie for points awarded for bowls closest, next closest and third closest to the jack.

Our first major tournament of the year is the Presidents Cup. The event honours our current President. The teams will be randomly drawn mixed triples. Attire is club colours or whites.

Our second major tournament is the Founders Tournament. This is a three game event where Men’s pairs and Women’s pairs compete for their respective winner and runner-up plaques.

Our annual Canada Day celebration starts with a sumptuous breakfast of pancakes and sausages followed by a game of bowls.

The Gunn Tournament is our third major tournament. The format is mixed triples with a range of criteria possible for determining the winners. An Ontario draw may be used.

The Hawaiian Party is a very popular event in the summer with bowling and food where everyone’s invited to dress in Hawaiian clothes.

One of the fun tournaments in the summer is our Gals and Guys! which sees the women playing the men.  It is, as you can imagine, ultra-competitive.

During the summer we have our fun National Bowls Day. Members come in the national attire/costume of the countries they represent (or at least wish to represent). Join in for some bowling, fun games and an unique cultural social time.

The summer season winds up with a Year End fun event, a bite to eat and the ceremonial lowering of the flag signaling the end of the outdoor season.

At Christmas time we have our ever-popular Christmas party and Dinner which is very popular event.

All in all, there are a lot of opportunities to mingle, socialize and have fun.
