CLUB CALENDAR/SCHEDULE [see Club Calendar] A complete schedule (calendar) showing every day for the five months of the bowling season is available on this website and will be updated in the monthly newsletters.
The schedule outlines all draws, leagues, tournaments (club or open), coaching days, special days, holiday fun days and when the greens are closed.
DRAWS [for more information click here] The draws are all outlined on the Club Calendar. Generally morning draws start at 9:00 am and afternoon draws start at 1:00 pm but start times may vary. Please check the calendar for actual times.
The dress code is casual dress with proper shoes.
Every player should be at the green at least 15 minutes prior to the draw time, preferably, before that, to help set up the equipment on the rinks.
The Drawmaster is responsible for arranging player’s tags and assigning positions and to endure that any special playing conditions (directions, ground sheets, etc.) are followed.
Before each draw, we need to set out the mats, scoreboards, rakes etc. and after the game is over, put them away. Please take your turn helping with these tasks.
Draws are open to all active club members. Novices: please check with your coach who will let you when you can start playing in club draws.
LEAGUES [for more information click here] Leagues vary from year to year and may include: Mixed Pairs, Open Pairs, Mixed Triples, Men’s Pairs, Women’s Pairs, Singles Ladder and Cut Throat Ladder.
Sign-up is by your own chosen team.
The dress code is casual dress with proper shoes unless otherwise specified.
The Conditions of Play for these leagues will be posted on the games board and published in the monthly newsletter.
Leagues are open to all active club members. Novices: please check with your coach who will let you when you can start playing in league play.
CLUB TOURNAMENTS [for more information click here] There are a variety of club tournaments each year. Some are played over two days and some over one day. The three most prominent tournaments are Singles Championships, The Presidents Trophy and the Gunn tournament.
All club tournaments have “prestigious” club trophies awarded to the winners and in many cases, runners up.
Sign up is generally individual and a draw is made to determine teams. Sign-up sheets for these competitions will be announced in the monthly newsletter and information posters will be displayed on the Games Board.
The player’s assigned position will be based on the players ranking which is indicated on the player’s tag on the draw board. Club members are invited to watch as the draw is made.
The dress code will be indicated on the sign-up poster as well as the conditions of play. Check the dress code for each tournament. The Laws of the Sport will be followed at all club tournaments.
Club Tournaments are fun events and are open to all active club members. Novices: please check with your coach who will let you when you can start playing in club tournaments.
INTERCLUB COMPETITIONS [for more information click here] These are ‘friendly’ competitions between Sidney Lawn Bowling Club and various other clubs.
Sign-up sheets for these competitions will be announced in the monthly newsletter and information posters will be displayed on the Games Board.
The dress code will be indicated on the sign-up poster as well as the conditions of play. Check the dress code for each tournament.
Inter-club Competitions are fun events and are open to all active club members. Novices: please check with your coach who will let you when you can start playing in inter-club competitions.
BSI TOURNAMENTS [see BSI Calendar] BSI tournaments are those sponsored by a club who is part of the Bowls South Island district group. The host club will advertise in other clubs for competitors.
You enter as a team – anyone can form and enter a team. Once the tournament is open for entries, you must contact the games chairperson of the club where the tournament is being held. There is usually an entry deadline but it is advisable to enter these tournaments as soon as possible.
Tournaments can be restricted by age, and gender. Some tournaments are “closed” meaning the team you enter must be from the same club. Other tournaments are “open” meaning your teammates may come from any club.
Our BSI Tournaments include the Sidney Ladies Singles Championship and the Heart Mixed Fours Tournament. Entries may come from other clubs just as our members may enter BSI competitions hosted elsewhere. There is normally an entry fee and prizes are often in cash.
The BSI schedule is posted on the website and on the Games Board at the club.
These tournaments are very competitive. It is not our intention to discourage people from entering these competitions but be aware that this is the most competitive environment short of Provincial and National Competitions.
PROVINCIAL AND NATIONAL TOURNAMENTS [see BSI Calendar] These are by far the most competitive tournaments short of the international stage. You will need to be an accomplished bowler to succeed at these events.
In most cases play downs are required to enter a Provincial or National tournament.
Our BSI and Combined Calendars will show the dates for Bowls BC and Bowls Canada tournaments. For more information please visit Bowls BC and Bowls Canada Boulingrin
MAINTENANCE AND OPEN DAYS [see Club Calendar] The Club Calendar will be updated and usually a notice is sent to all members when the grounds are closed for maintenance. When there is nothing scheduled for play or maintenance, members can use the greens for practice or to set up a game with your friends.
CHANGES TO THE SCHEDULE [see Club Calendar] Please visit the Club Calendar occasionally to see the most up-to-date information. Changes will also be announced in the monthly newsletter and, at times, by direct email.
