CLUB INFORMATION
In North America many people think of lawn bowling as a sport for older folks. And they would be right. But it is also a sport for young people. In fact, it’s a game that you can play at any age.
Lawn bowling has been around for almost 800 years and is played on every continent around the world. And there is a reason for its longevity – it’s a whole lot of fun.
Some people play just for the exercise. Some play for a casual outing with friends. Some play to be competitive. But all of us enjoy the camaraderie.
There are 16 Lawn Bowling clubs on Vancouver Island, and at Sidney Lawn Bowling Club we pride ourselves on being one of the friendliest.
The Club is situated in beautiful Sidney, BC, close to Tulista Park, by the ocean. It was established in 1998 and currently has over 100 active and social members ranging from ages 12 to 90+.
It’s a great place to meet people, have fun, enjoy competition, and take part in social events and get-togethers.
The club is built on volunteers and you’ll find our members most welcoming. They’ll introduce you to the sport of lawn bowling and they’ll take you from learning all about that lopsided bowl, to being able to play at whatever level you desire, casual to competitive.
As a source of pride, the club has been instrumental in producing a national junior champion, two British Columbia single men’s champions and we have had club members who were part of provincial and national titles as well as British Columbia senior games. No small feat for a bowling club from Sidney by the Sea.
But most importantly, over the past 20 some odd years our club has introduced this wonderful game to hundreds of people who became casual bowlers and whose only ambition was to come out, enjoy the sunshine and a friendly game.
Drop in sometime … and see what we are all about. You’ll find that we are a club of caring, friendly, and encouraging people.
